Remember the Queen of Tejano Music during this Selena Celebration
For years, The Rustic has kept it simple with live music and home style meals made with farm-to-table ingredients, local craft beers and cocktails under the stars. Baila Esta Cumbia with us at The Rustic for Selena Day! We're celebrating the one and only Selena with live music and a look-alike costume contest where few lucky winners will shimmy home with prizes from The Rustic.
Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was an American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, model, actress, and fashion designer. Called the Queen of Tejano music, her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century. Selena has been credited for helping redefine Latin music and its subgenres of Tejano, cumbia, and Latin pop.
People magazine named Selena one of the most intriguing people of the 20th century. US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison named Selena one of "the spirited women who shaped [the United States]." Her death was "the most devastating loss" in Tejano music history. On April 12, 1995, George W. Bush, governor of Texas at the time, declared her birthday, April 16, Selena Day in the state. He said Selena represented "the essence of south Texas culture."
